Privacy Policy

Last updated 17 Sep 2026

1. Who we are

1.1 This policy explains how we handle personal information. In this policy, “Maytes”, “we”, “us” and “our” means KttiPay Pty Ltd (ACN 657 958 195) trading as Split with Maytes.

1.2 We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

1.3 This policy applies to everyone who uses Split with Maytes — whether you set up a split as an Organiser, pay a Share as a Payer, or visit our website or app.

1.4 Split with Maytes lets a group divide the cost of a single purchase from a merchant. The merchant sells you the goods or service. We arrange the splitting and the payments. We do not hold your money — payments are processed by Stripe and settle to the merchant.

2. What we collect

If you are an Organiser

  • Your name, mobile number and email address
  • The details of the split — the total amount, how you divided it, and who you invited
  • Your payment details, which are collected and held by Stripe rather than by us. We never see or store your full card number
  • The record of your agreement to the terms, including what you were shown, when, and the fact that you selected the confirmation box
  • Information about the device you used — device and browser identifiers, IP address, and the times you did things

If you are a Payer

  • Your name, mobile number and email address, given to us by the Organiser
  • The amount of your Share and whether you paid it
  • Your payment details, held by Stripe
  • The record of your agreement to the terms
  • Device and network information, as above

If you visit our website or app

  • Standard technical information such as IP address, browser type and pages viewed
  • Cookies and similar technologies, as described in clause 9

We do not collect sensitive information as that term is defined in the Privacy Act. We do not ask for, and do not want, information about your health, your background, or your beliefs.

3. When someone else gives us your details

3.1 If you are a Payer, we received your name and contact details from the Organiser, not from you.

3.2 When an Organiser gives us those details, they confirm they have your permission to do so, and that they are giving them to us only so that we can ask you to pay your Share.

3.3 We tell you this the first time we contact you. Your Payment Link identifies the Organiser who invited you and the merchant involved, so you know why you have heard from us and who to ask about it.

3.4 If you would rather we did not hold your details, tell us at [email protected]. We will remove you from the split. Note that this does not oblige anyone else to pay your Share — if you do not pay, the amount is taken from the Organiser instead, as set out in our terms.

4. Why we collect it

We collect personal information to:

  • Arrange and process the split, and send Payment Links
  • Send you messages about a split you are part of — reminders, receipts and notice before an Organiser is charged
  • Keep a record of what you were shown and what you agreed to, which we may need if a payment is later queried or disputed
  • Detect and prevent fraud and unlawful use
  • Respond to your questions and complaints
  • Meet our obligations under law and under card scheme rules
  • Understand how the service is used, so we can improve it

We do not sell your personal information. We never have and we do not intend to.

5. Who we share it with

WhoWhat they get, and why
The merchantYour name and the details of the payment, so they can identify the booking and meet their obligations as the seller. If you have opted in to hear from them, your contact details as well
StripeThe information needed to process your payment. Stripe is our payments processor and holds your card details, not us
Messaging providersYour mobile number or email address, so we can deliver Payment Links, reminders and receipts
Analytics and engagement providersCleverTap, Google Analytics and Amplitude. Information about your device and how you use the service, so we can understand how it is working and send you messages about your split. They do not receive your card details
Your card issuer, or the merchant’sWhere a payment is queried or disputed, the record of what you were shown and agreed to
Our service providersHosting, infrastructure and support tools, under contract and only for the purposes above
Law enforcement and regulatorsWhere we are required to by law, or where we reasonably suspect fraud or unlawful activity

5.1 We may share information with a purchaser if our business is sold or restructured. If that happens, this policy continues to apply to information collected before the change unless we tell you otherwise.

6. Marketing

6.1 We will not send you marketing unless you have separately opted in.

6.2 Messages about a split you are part of are not marketing. They include your Payment Link, reminders while a split is open, notice before an Organiser is charged, and receipts. You cannot opt out of these while a split is running, because you need them to know what is happening with your money.

6.3 Merchants may offer you the option to hear from them when you pay. That is a separate choice, in the merchant’s own words, and it is off unless you select it. If you opt in, your contact details are shared with that merchant for that purpose.

6.4 Every marketing message carries a way to unsubscribe, and we act on it promptly. Opting out does not affect your ability to use Split with Maytes.

7. How long we keep it

7.1 We keep records of what you were shown and agreed to, and the evidence relating to a payment, for 540 days from the date of the transaction. This is because a payment can be disputed with a card issuer for up to that period, and we may need the record to help resolve it.

7.2 We keep transaction and financial records for 7 years, as required for tax and record-keeping purposes.

7.3 After those periods we delete the information or de-identify it so it can no longer be linked to you.

7.4 Where we are required by law or by card scheme rules to keep something for longer, we will.

8. Keeping it secure

8.1 We hold personal information in secure systems, encrypted in transit and at rest, and restrict access to people who need it to do their job.

8.2 Your card details are held by Stripe, not by us. We never see or store your full card number.

8.3 We maintain security practices covering access control, secure development and the vendors we use.

8.4 If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

9. Cookies and tracking

9.1 Our website and app use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, keep the service secure, and understand how it is used.

9.2 You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may stop parts of the service working.

9.3 We use CleverTap, Google Analytics and Amplitude to understand how people use Split with Maytes and to send messages about a split you are part of. These tools receive information about your device and the actions you take in the service. They do not receive your card details. You can manage your preferences through your browser settings and, where offered, the controls these providers make available.

10. Where your information is held

10.1 We hold personal information in Australia, and some of our service providers hold or process it overseas.

10.2 Stripe processes payment information in Australia and the United States.

10.3 Where information is held or processed outside Australia, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

11. Automated decisions

11.1 We use automated processes to screen payments for fraud and to apply the limits a merchant has set. These may result in a payment being declined or a split being prevented.

11.2 If a decision affects you and you would like it looked at by a person, contact us at [email protected].

12. Accessing and correcting your information

12.1 You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong.

12.2 Email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

12.3 We may need to verify who you are before we release information. We will not charge you for making a request, though we may charge a reasonable amount for the cost of providing access in some circumstances.

12.4 If we refuse a request, we will tell you why in writing and explain how to complain about it.

13. Complaints

13.1 If you think we have mishandled your personal information, contact us at [email protected]. Please describe what has happened and the outcome you are seeking.

13.2 We will acknowledge your complaint within 2 business days and respond within 30 days. If we need longer we will tell you why and when to expect our response.

13.3 If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner:

  • Online at oaic.gov.au
  • By phone on 1300 363 992
  • By post to GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001

14. Changes to this policy

14.1 We may update this policy. The current version is always at maytes.co/privacy, with a version number and date.

14.2 If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will tell you before it takes effect.
